First drive: tesla model 3.


This has been a big problem when electric car maker tesla launches new products, but the new Model 3 luxury compact sports car is by far the most important automaker. This is because the Model 3 is tesla’s first attempt at a truly mass-market electric vehicle. Tesla’s commitment starts at $35,000, with the goal of targeting model 3 with the audi A4 and BMW 3 series, but without any emissions.
Since elon musk, Tesla’s chief executive, first announced it two years ago, Hype has surrounded the car, and hundreds of thousands of shoppers have deposited $1,000 in deposits within days. However, many of these potential buyers have been patiently trying, since the launch of model 3 has plagued tesla’s production problems and delays.
We were able to buy the early Model 3 for our test team because we had bought Teslas before and because we had invested so quickly. The disadvantage of being an early adopter means buying tesla’s first configuration, which means more expensive, well-equipped versions.
The carmaker has built the first 3 models, with $9000 in the remote battery and $5000 of senior upgrade (no.12 power and heating the front seats, senior audio system and glass window. We have added a $5,000 enhanced autopilot system and a $3,000 automatic driving capability option to assess these intriguing features and the potential for wireless updates. When we finished, our Model 3 went off for $59,000.
This is our first impression, based on the car we bought. Once the car reaches 2, 000 miles, it will pass our battery of over 50 tests. We will report the full results in the future.
How does it drive
We’ll start with takeoff. Unlike regular petrol-powered engines, electric cars can instantly deploy full torque. Because of this, the model 3 has an authoritative line, and every push of the throttle translates into direct thrust in the near silence.
Model 3 is not only fast, but also impressive. Using a remote battery, the car’s EPA rating is 310 miles per charge. (we’ll test the range of our cars in the next few weeks.) Tesla’s standard battery will be released later, with an estimated range of 220 miles.
Our testers were impressed by the bonding of our vehicles to the road, and to speed and precision, like a carefully calibrated sports car. The tension suspension system of model 3 can keep the vehicle not inclined while turning, and its sharp reflex ability is sculpted by easy turning, and can be removed directly.
Cycling quality is another matter. The car was too rigid to absorb the dignity of the limousine. The highway also has considerable wind noise.
One of tesla’s features, Autopilot, was available on Model 3, and we ordered it for our test car.
The autopilot system combines adaptive cruise control with the ability to maintain speed and adjust to traffic conditions. It can stop the car and drive on when it stops.
It was activated by shifting the lever on the lower column twice, and our initial impression was that it worked very well.
While it’s not as smooth as most human drivers, the autopilot on the Model 3 does a good job of keeping the car in the lane. The experience of this car is similar to what we found in the latest Model S.
It is important to remember that the autopilot design is not responding to all contingencies, which means that the driver must be attentive and professional and put his hands on the steering wheel.

Since its inception, tesla has been a company that can do things in a different way, even for the key to the Model 3. Nothing. Instead, it USES your smartphone as the key. Once the Tesla application is installed on your phone, the car senses that you are approaching it, automatically unlocks its door and allows you to drive the car just by putting it in place.
If your cell phone battery is dead, there may be problems. If this happens, the driver can unlock and start the Model 3 using the key card, just as in some hotels. However, using the key card to unlock the car’s touch may be difficult to learn and master. In addition, the card must be placed on the central console to start driving – another inconvenience.
The smart phone application as a key is a unique method. It provides a simple solution for unlocking and starting, but the other eccentricities of model 3 seem to be different, just for different purposes. Pick up the door handle: you push the chrome lever side, then you have to pull the other side to open a door. It feels unnatural and awkward.
The driving position in model 3 is excellent. Even with a thick front, the car’s wide windscreen, sloping hood and low dashboard can clearly see the road ahead. This is similar to driving a sports car like Acura NSX or porsche 718 Boxster – like the Model 3, the vehicle has no front engine and therefore has a lower hood. The only real visibility problem is the elevated rear seat rear seat, which partially hides the rear view of the car.
The steering wheel has a thick side and a small diameter, just like some racing cars. This design is possible, because in Model 3, the driver does not need to see through any instrument through the steering wheel (more on that later). This increases the sense of movement of the car.
In front, the seat is comfortable, side support is good. The back seat is a different story – it has a very low position, causing an uncomfortable knee bend in adults and does not provide thigh support. The toe space in the front seat is cramped. This Model is much more rigorous than the main competition of passengers in many Model 3.
Our test car is full of beautiful materials, including suede and wood trim attached to the advanced upgrade kit. Clean dashboards, large screen touch screens, hidden vents, and simple atmospheres without knobs.
This approach also applies to the control of the Model 3. Like a key, at least not the traditional key. In addition to the two finger wheels on the steering wheel and the steering column, there is not much physical control that the driver can interact with.
