2018 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE vs 2018 Ford Mustang GT Performance Pack

For 50 years, we’ve been doing this particular challenge, and loyal readers have never thought of stopping. This special comparison test is the occasion of Ford launched the 2018 Mustang. For the purpose of this story, we got GT Performance Pack 1. Why is not P-Pack 2 recently announced? Because Ford did not release until May. The interest on behalf of Chevrolet is Camaro SS 1LE, which has remained unchanged since 2016. Our test car is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, but the new Mustang is equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Let’s break down the Camaro SS first. A solid 6.2-liter putter V-8 is packed in the Chevrolet, pumping 455 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque. 1LE is the Camaro code for the Orbital Options package. All 1LE Camaros are equipped with a black hood, black mirror, black other bits and a manual gearbox. SS 1LE has five levels of magnetic control, GM’s eLSD technology, and Performance Traction Management (aka PTM), Brembo brakes and Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 tires. It also has a dual-mode exhaust and oil cooler, differential and transmission. Our car comes with the optional Recaro Seat and Performance Data Recorder, a beautiful built-in camera system that helps you handle lap times. Overall, this red Chevrolet will sell for $ 46,295, a premium of $ 8,300 over the Camaro SS base price of $ 37,995.
This is the first ever production of Mustang 5.0, which replaced 5000 cubic centimeters. Old Coyote V-8 replaced 4,951 cubes. Ford has changed the cylinder liner, using the same plasma transfer line arc GT sports car. Therefore, the hole is now 93 millimeters (nearly a millimeter) and the total displacement is 5,038 milliliters. Due to the larger inner diameter, the valve may be (and larger). Cylinder head is new, camshafts, crankshafts and connecting rod bearings are also new. The new engine also rotates from 500 to 7,500 rpm. The 2018 Coyote engine provides port and direct injection, and due to the cooling effect of the DI, the compression ratio is now relatively high at 12: 1. As you may have guessed now, the power has been increased from 435 hp to 460 hp (5 hp higher than the Chevrolet). Torque also increased 20 pounds – feet to 420 pounds – feet (although still cheaper than Chevrolet 35 feet). Six-speed manual movement of the new gear, optimize the health output of the engine.

The 2018 Mustang has also been updated, according to my Instagram followers, the new sheet metal. Ford’s decision to take Mustang Global means that the car is subject to the European pedestrian safety regulations, which often have a detrimental effect on the design. This is why headlamps are so small, and hoods are so bulbs.
The coolest thing for me is the 12.4-inch dashboard. Its brightness and readability are not the same for different modes (track screen, especially Ford tachometer), and they work well with the pleasant viscera of the Mustang. Sadly, Ford now has too many screens, too many messages, or you are always prompted to click OK.

Optional Performance Pack 1 adds features like big wings; black alloy wheels; Michelin PS4 tires; Brembo brakes; dual-mode exhaust; strut towers; a K-bracket; harder front springs; Thick rear anti roll bar; larger radiator; a Torsen limited slip differential; rotary electric power steering, stability control and ABS; and “unique chassis tuning.” To balance things as much as possible, our test car is equipped with an optional magnetic damper, the Ford MagneRide. Sadly, we asked, but did not get the Recaro sports seat available. Total price: 49,670 dollars, which is 9,675 dollars higher than the basic price of GT. Mustang feels even more special than Camaro $ 3,375? No, however, Ford’s interior looks and feels about $ 2K.

Before we come into contact with numbers, we should talk about the pony car’s credentials that are inherent to each car. That means you do not need to be 0-60 miles hella important when you sit in a bar and bickering with a car. The head of the International Bureau, Angus MacKenzie, calls it “bar ammunition.” However, in the street, numbers do not matter.
Why did Ford win? Well, on the one hand, Mustang V-8 just like to refurbish. The faster it spins, the more energy it spits out. On the other hand, we will explore this issue further in less than a second, and we have a clear feeling that the new “wolves” are rolling out more than 460 ponies. For Camaro, it sits on a wider, softer rear tire and has no traction on compacted dirt than Mustang.

It’s time to stay with Cowboy Science and provide practical science by our testing team. First, Ford Motor Chevrolet, 3,863 pounds, more than 3,746 pounds. The two cars have the same weight distribution, both at 54 / 46.1LE, winning a 0-60 sprint in 4.4 seconds with a Mustang GT in 4.1 seconds. By the quarter mile, Camaro is still ahead of the curve, but not too much: driving a Chevrolet car at 115.2 mph (115.2 mph) and driving a 12.6-second Mustang at 115.1 mph . Road test driver Chris Walton, our line master, told me that if we extend the playing time, Ford will win the race because Chevrolet’s torque and traction are gone and high The strength of the DOHC horsepower prevailed.

As we said before, we think Ford is packing the actual output. why? My best guess is to protect the 526 horsepower GT350 I’m still selling. But who knows? At the brakes, here Chevrolet Ford wasted. The 1LE Six Piston Binder is dragged to stop from 93 mph 60 mph. This is world class. GT, there are six-piston calipers, which takes 104 feet. Remember that both cars use a similar performance rubber and all have Brembos. Yes, Ford weighs more, but not so much. Camaro’s brakes are just better.

Just as 1LE processing. Around our track number eight, the Broncos lead in 24.0 seconds. This is great, especially since the 2016 Mustang GT takes 24.4 seconds while the BMW M4 takes 24.1 seconds. That’s a good company. By comparison, the Nissan GT-R NISMO, the Porsche 991 GT3 and the Porsche 991.2 Turbo S jumped eight straight at 22.9 seconds. I mentioned this, as Camaro does. I still find it hard to deal with this figure, but this is a fact. Chevy’s working day runs even with the world’s elite performance car in a real processing test.

Record, we have seen the fastest time is 22.2 seconds, namely Porsche 918 Spyder and Lamborghini HuracánPerformante. This means that Camaro 1LE is within the distance of spitting. As I asked his handling guru Kim Reynolds for his thoughts on the two cars, he first looked at Camaro and glared contemptuously at the Broncos and said: “About 4000 years of evolution have taken place between the two.
This round of winners? At the Chevrolet Camaro 1LE. In my opinion, this is not close. Chevrolet is almost impossible to do, beyond this genre, the former provincial pony into an honest world-class sports car. The $ 46,000 miracle struck too much weight so much that I could easily tell these weird things. For example, if I was an engineer at BMW or even Porsche, I would clean my drawing board.

Where did you leave the Broncos? So, if you do not care about measurable performance, but about the “cowboy science” of things, then you are the winner. However (here’s the part I hate to write about) what’s really important for the car owner is that the 2018 Mustang handed it off to it. In order to spend less, Chevrolet’s frozen design Ford. This is what bothered me. Ford should not only do better, but I also know they can do better. The Shelby GT350R is a breathtaking car per inch like the Porsche GT3, demonstrating that Ford has the knowledge to make better cars. It remains to be seen how the upcoming release of Performance Pack 2 will narrow the gap with the GT350 R and the Camaro SS 1LE. You may expect another Camaro / Mustang matchup answer.
